🧠 Weekly Reflections #6: Aftermath of the collapse.

Hey Everyone –

Welcome to the sixth edition of the weekly reflections newsletter! I'm excited to be writing this one straight out break - I'm back in AU and after a week of locking into some pretty important work (and resting a bit). And just so you guys know, some ideas were generated for members-only content!💡

That being said, let’s get into it! 🫡

💎 Reflections from the Journal:

  • There have been some pretty big developments in the SVB story since I covered it last week. Here are the 3 most things you need to know that happened since then:

↳ The FDIC decided to bail out the people (aka VCs) who lost money not covered by the FDIC, not the banks this time around (kinda).

Source

↳ The federal reserve is conflicted: Between raising interest rates to combat inflation or slowing down (or even pausing) rate hikes to address events unfolding in the banking world, they have a pretty hard decision to make heading into their next meetings on the 21st - 22nd. However, it seems like they are leaning more towards raising rates by .25% after inflation persists heading into this month.

↳ Credit Suisse, a Swiss multinational bank considered one of the 30 ‘too big to fail’ banks worldwide, couldn't survive the aftermath of the collapse (and because of some other internal related issues, but that's a story for another day) and was bought by Swiss competitor UBS, which is one of the 10 largest banks in the world. So much for their 167-year run.

💭 More reflections from the journal:

  • I was staying over at a relative's house over break, and these photos jumped out at me while I was working. As someone who comes from a family of immigrants (🇬🇹-🇧🇴 representing!), it never really occurred to me how ingrained the immigrant hustle is into the DNA of who I am.

↳ I was thinking about that over break, and I started to realize how special the reality is of being raised by a family whose hustle created a future for the next generation to reach their calling in a totally different culture. Something I gotta be thankful for.

↳ So shout out to all the immigrant parents out there that have been putting in the work so that their kids can reach their calling 🫡 Te amamos!

🎙️ Favorite podcast moments of the week:

  • “Self-discipline and the joy of missing out are some of the greatest forms of self-love." (24:44)
  • “You cannot elevate as a communicator if you don’t elevate as a thinker.” (11:30)

❤️ Quotes of the week:

  • “Celebrate your efforts more than your outcomes.” - Mridul (also gotta shout out my man's business!)
  • “Comparison can be the thief of joy when you lose focus of who you are becoming." - Caleb

That's all I got for today. Love you guys, and see you next week!
